| One of two 18 hole
public courses set in the beautiful Royal Richmond Park. |
|
Duke's is the lower and flatter of the two
courses at Richmond Park, it is also the longer course at 6,036 yards,
par 68/69.
The course is set in Richmond Park, the atmosphere is great, there
are squirrels and rabbits, geese, foxes, even deer get on the course
from the park sometimes.
There is a stream running across the course and you play over it on
holes 5, 6, 7, 11, 12 & 13.
The first hole is a testing start with a large tree blocking the view
of the green on your left and OB leftside of the fairway.
Playing off the white tees the 3rd green is hard to hit, it's long
and narrow with bunkers left and right. If you're playing from the
forward tee it's a good chance to get a birdie.
You can't normaly see the pin from the 4th tee, it's tucked right and
the wind is invariably off the left pushing to the OB on the right.
Many rounds are cursed early here.
Five six and seven make a good challenge.
Five is the only par 5, at 510yds with the stream about 280yds out,
you'll be extremely lucky/good to get on here for two.
Hole 7 is a 425 yard left dog leg to a raised green, it takes two
very good shots to be on this green in regulation.
Hole 9 at the very back of the course has a large wide green, but
there are bunkers to the left and front, heavy rough and bushes right,
and OB just behind.
Hole 10 plays par 4/5 depending on tee position, 412/482 yards. OB
on the right, a large stand of trees in rough left and the fairway
doesn't start for 200yds. Then it's uphill to a sloping green with
two bunkers.
The last hole at 247 yards, is quite long for a par 3.
Duke's has some tough holes, played from the white tees and on a windy
day, it's quite a challenge.
The 14 bay driving range is adequate. There is a good practice chipping
and putting area with two greens on different levels and two sand
bunkers.
This course closes 1/2 hr before the park gates are locked, and the
restaurant closes before the course, so check your timing. |
