| An attractive and well
cared-for parkland course with really dramatic shape. |
|
Hoebridge Golf Centre is more than just a golf course, they have all the facilities you could want for a great day out. A lovely 18 hole course, the availablity to play just 9 holes, a driving range, chipping and putting practice areas, a well stocked pro shop providing tuition and repairs & regripping, food on and off course with a restaurant and licensed bar as well as a health and fitness suite.
The first hole is a par 5, a generous fairway
lined both sides with trees, there are four large bunkers running
down the left and one on the right close to the green.
Hole 3 is another par 5, slightly easier than the first, unless you
play from the yellow tees, when it's a really tough par 4. The green
is sharply raised and protected front left by two bunkers.
The 4th hole is the first par 4, stroke index one. Straight and fairly
flat the fairway pinches in about 240 yards out with trees on the
left, a bunker on the right and another left a little further on.
If your tee shot is long enough it needs to be straight.
With hole 5 the shape of the course comes into play, the ground falls
away sharply before rising again 200 yards out. Stay left anything
right rolls away and you cannot see the green from there. If you're
lucky you have a 150 yard shot up a steep hill to green surrounded
by Chinese pines and a magnificent view across the course and the
surrounding countryside.
The 7th is a dramatic hole. The tee shot is up and over the brow of
a hill with only a barbers pole for a view. If you've driven well
you're left with a mid iron to a green like a corner shelf, tucked
into a hill right and back and falling away to nothing front and left.
You could get lucky and hit a bunker. Don't forget to ring the bell.
Hole eleven another blind tee shot with a barbers pole, but this time
the ground drops away sharply the other side of the hill, this gives
your ball a good roll but leaves you playing from a seriously awkward
stance. The green is way below you with bunkers short left and long
right, aim to go long and left and avoid all the trouble.
The 513 yard par 5 thirteenth is the first tight tee shot, and it's
really tight. Uphill blind with a solid line of trees along the right
and a massive continuous mound left. When you get to the green it's
raised above your head, making this a challenging hole.
Seventeen is the most exreme hole, the tee is the lowest point and
you are teeing off across and up the side of a steeply sloping hill,
there is very little flat ground, wherever you land your ball you
will be left with an awkward stance for your next shot up the hill.
It takes two very good shots to reach the brow of the hill, you'll
likely be playing blind into this tiny raised green. A real tester.
The final hole is a straight forward affair, a flat 170 yard par 3
to a kidney shaped green with 3 small bunkers, an easy finish after
the last few holes and leaving you right outside the club house.
A very nice course with a sculptured appearance, some really great
views and beautiful trees. As well as a good club house, pro shop
and practice facilities there are two other courses here, an 18 hole
par 3 course and a 9 hole course. |
