| An interesting
and attractive course, quite short, with 6 challenging par 3's. |
|
There are no par 5's for men at Wimbldon
Park but there are six tough par 3's and some long par 4's.
Hole 1 is a short par 4, you are teeing blind down a narrow fairway,
so have a look through the periscope. Position from the tee is more
important than length.
The 3rd is quite a long par 3 at 229yds, there is a water-filled
ditch across the fairway and 5 bunkers protecting the green.
You cross the road to get to the 4th tee, a long par 4.
The 5th is a long sweeping uphill dogleg right par 4, you need to
hit a good drive to have a shot at this green for regulation.
Hole six one of the longer par 4's, another blind drive, this time
downhill and doglegging left. If you don't drive long enough or far
right enough to see past the dogleg there is much trouble between
you and the green.
Men and ladies both use the same teeing area on the par 3 seventh,
a total carry across the lake.
If you can just land it over the green-wide bunker and short of the
OB the hedge on the par 3 eleventh you will find this shallow green.
Hole 12 is a beautiful site from the tee. You are standing well above
the fairway which climbs at the far end to a raised green with a wonderful
Church in the background.
The tee on 13 the longest par 4 is also well above the fairway, giving
a magnificent view across london.
Both 15 and 16 are par 3's with greens well surrounded by bunkers.
Seventeen is a very short par 4. You tee off across a stream with
a nice stone bridge to a narrow green with a bunker on every corner.
The eighteenth is quite memorable playing along side the lake and
back toward the club house. It's quite short so you can hit a wedge
into the fast and slopey green.
A nice course, when you finish you want to play again. |
